SeaFrance celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2006. The company took over the Sealink pool 10 and is the only French ferry operator on the Calais Dover route.
2001 saw the launch of the SeaFrance Rodin, the largest and most powerful ship on the Short Sea Route. The SeaFrance Rodin was awarded the 2003-2004 Cruise & Ferry Award for the Most Innovative New Build Ferry.
In the wake of this success, SeaFrance commissioned a sister ship, the SeaFrance Berlioz, which was brought into service in 2005. The company currently has a fleet of 6 ships and carries out 46 daily crossings, 30 of which are tourism sailings.
The company employs a total of 1,700 staff, including 1,200 seagoing personnel and is the largest employer in the town of Calais. Its British subsidiary, SeaFrance Limited based in Dover, employs approximately 200 members of staff.
SeaFrance places great importance on safety. Its crews undergo rigorous safety training and undertake regular safety exercises to ensure they are completely prepared to face any emergency situation.
In 2005, SeaFrance transported:
- 3 212 400 passengers
- 601 800 cars
- 19 000 coaches
- 680 000 trucks.
Its market share of the Short Sea route is :
- 14% for passengers
- 13% for cars
- 10.4% for coaches
- 20.3% for trucks.
