BMT Transport Solutions GmbH offers strategic advice to the transport sector and helps develop more efficient and sustainable transport systems. Since 1988 we have provided professional expertise to companies in the transport sector, shippers, regional and national administrations, and the European Commission.
BMT Transport Solutions is based in Hamburg and is a subsidiary of BMT Limited. The BMT group of companies is engaged in a wide range of maritime engineering and consulting. Before October 2002, BMT Transport Solutions was a daughter of the Swedish Transport Research Institute (TFK).
Participation in international R&D projects in the transport sector and co-operations within an international network of partners strengthen our competence in technical and policy development. We help develop and promote cross-border, intermodal transport and traffic systems in Europe and beyond.
The diagram shows our work on different levels. First and foremost, we take a Transport Market view. Based on our integrated European Freight Model (EFM STAN) we simulate transport flows derived from trade patterns between European Regions. The resulting market forecasts are needed by transport operators, but are equally useful for supporting regional development.
On a more concrete level, we take a Manufacturer view, e.g., to support the optimisation of product distribution strategies.
To implement such strategies, we take a Transport Chain view, supporting intermodal business development, analysing and reorganising transport processes and applying information technology.
Finally, we also take an Asset Management view, analysing the performance and risk of fleets especially in the rail sector. In co-operation with BMT Rail and BMT Reliability Consultants Ltd, we offer SPARail and Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) as business tools for asset life cycle management with a focus on maintenance and spare parts allocation strategies (download SPARail/RCM leaflet).
A particular focus of our work has been the transport between Scandinavia and Germany, and in the wider Baltic area, covering market development, technology, administration and organisational issues. Projects often concern the development of intermodal transport solutions and infrastructure development, for example, in ports and terminals. Road and rail traffic also contribute important issues, e.g., regarding automatic fee collection and long-distance rail transport.
