S.A.B. : the airport development and promotion company
The private company SAB S.A. was founded in 1990 and was granted a 50-year concession by the Walloon Region to develop and promote Liege Airport. In addition to the day-to-day operation of LIEGE AIRPORT, it is responsible for:
> The airport infrastructure (own investment and on behalf of the Walloon Region); > Marketing the area (aviation and other markets); > Site security (the airport fire brigade is manned by SAB personnel); > Site maintenance (cleaning, snow clearance, maintaining buildings, runways, aircraft parks and airport roads); > Aircraft refuelling.
SAB also promotes LIEGE AIRPORT, concentrating mainly on two niche markets:
> Development of full cargo traffic; > Development of passenger traffic, particularly charter flights.
As a result of partnership agreements signed with Paris Airports in 1999, LIEGE AIRPORT is today recognised internationally as a freight airport and ranks 11th in Europe as an airport cargo platform.
Liege Logistics : presentation
Liege Logistics is a genuine cargo village specialising in intermodal air/rail/road transport as well as distribution and logistics; Liege Logistics is located a few hundred metres from the main runway. The result of an effective partnership between Meusinvest and SPI+, this approximately 84-hectare estate houses fifteen or so companies.
Because of its location and specific requirements, the area has altogether unique facilities. Here are found very extensive road networks and a 40,000 m2 road-rail transhipment yard capable of holding entire trains and combining container transport.
