Brussels Airport and Future Development

To provide our future passengers with attractive travel surroundings adapted to their needs and wants, Brussels International Airport Company is carrying out important expansion works to improve their passenger service.

Recent achievements:

In progress: New control tower

Rik Daems, Minister of Public Companies and Participations, inaugurated this 3rd October 2002 the building site of the new Belgocontrol control tower at Brussels National airport.

The tower will be built in Steenokkerzeel, at the eastside of the airport terrain, at about 500 m from the CANAC centre. The 65 metres high tower will be noticed from a distance.

We want it to be a symbol for the country, for the airport and for Belgocontrol of our will to rank among the best performing air traffic control centres in Europe. The air traffic controllers will have a maximum view on all the ground movements on the airport terrain.

The complex consists on the one hand of the tower itself and on the other hand of the building at the bottom of the tower. All the services directly involved in air traffic control at and around the airport will be concentrated in this complex.

Travellers with reduced mobility

At Brussels Airport, we take care of people with special needs, whether they are parents with babies and small children, or passengers with reduced mobility requiring assistance on arrivals or departures. This information will help you find your way in the airport terminal. It highlights a number of services that may assist you in using our airport, and it includes some helpful tips.

Guided tours

Every year Brussels Airport draws about 20,000 visitors who get to see far more than just a few aeroplanes. Accompanied by a professional airport guide visitors can take a look behind the screens.

Group visits

If you plan a visit with colleagues, pupils, or fellow members of a society, and if your party counts at least 15 people, you can book a guided tour. You choose between different types of visits, taking from one hour and a half up to four hours. Guided tours are organised throughout the year, in English, Dutch, French or German.

BIAC Aerodrome Manual

Brussels Airport was one of the first in Europe to apply to its local regulator for its certification as required by ICAO, and we have taken a leading role in Belgium in developing and understanding the concept of certification. Here at the airport we have a reputation for excellent safety record which derives from procedures, people training and applied technologies that are now standard practice at our airport and shall soon apply to other airports in Belgium and elsewhere.
